When the New Edition Legacy Tour 2023 was announced, no Canadian dates were included, and my disappointment could not be overstated.

As a lifelong fan, my journey with the iconic R&B group New Edition has been rewarding and challenging.

For over 40 years, I’ve been captivated by their unique blend of harmonies, infectious melodies, and on-point choreography. They have left an indelible mark on the global R&B scene, and their legacy is a testament to their talent.

My admiration for New Edition began in 1983 when I heard “Candy Girl” on the radio. From that moment, I was hooked, following every song, lyric, and album release – even their lesser-known Blue Moon album. However, seeing them perform live proved to be an elusive dream.

In 1986, I had a chance to see New Edition at Canada’s Wonderland Kingswood Music Theatre, but my strict Christian upbringing meant that opportunity was denied. Fast forward to 2007, and I finally saw them perform at the Ice Cream Summer Fest at the Budweiser Stage. However, Ralph Tresvant’s absence left me devastated.

My next opportunity came in 2012 at Casino Rama, where all six members were present. Yet, the show was tinged with sadness, as Whitney Houston had passed away just two months prior, casting a sombre tone over the performance.

Back to the New Edition Legacy Tour – with no Canadian dates, my incredible wife Sandra surprised me with VIP tickets to see them in Detroit for my 50th birthday. The show was beyond my expectations, and I danced the night away, feeling like a kid again. I had finally experienced the full magic of New Edition.

My AppleWatch was also in agreement.

From a personal perspective, my journey to see New Edition has been long and filled with obstacles. Yet, their unrivalled musical talent and charismatic stage presence have made it all worthwhile, solidifying my status as an NE lifer.
